Motorola 300, Gateway Indy 250, Emerson Indy 250 and Bonmarito Automotive Group 500.

These are the names used in the last 25 years for the last oval race of the 2022 NTT Indycar Season, at Worldwide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

Opened in 1967 as Gateway Motorsports Park and then Gateway International Raceway at Madison, Illinois, it's a short track Speedway of 1.250 miles, with a very low banking, between 9 and 11 degrees.

The race saw various changes to the distance. From 1997 to 2000, with CART as a sanctioning body, the race was held 299.72 miles distance. From 2001 to 2003, it was reduced to 250 miles for the IRL championship. When the NTT Indycar Series came back, the race distance has been extended to 500, making it more challenging and the second 500 Mile of the year after the Indianapolis 500.

Josef Newgarden is the master of this track, with 3 wins in 2017, 2020 and 2021. The rest of the drivers scored only one victory, showing that track provides big chances for the best drivers to win at least once. Paul Tracy was the first winner back in 1997, followed then by Alex Zanardi in '98, Michael Andretti in '99 and Juan-Pablo Montoya in 2000. From the successive years Al Unser Jr., Gil De Ferran, Hélio Castroneves, Will Power, Takuma Sato and Scott Dixon, were all able to score at least a single win. Team Penske has an astonishing record of 7 wins at Gateway, Chip Ganassi Racing follows with 3 wins, then we have Newman-Haas Racing, Galles Racing and Rahal-Letterman Lanigan Racing, able to score at least a single win. 

Who will be able this week-end to get in victory lane? Will Newgarden and Penske be able to score a 4th win together? Or it will be someone else who will get his name in the record books of Gateway?
