## Caption

The start of the race saw an excellent start of Herta ahead of Alexander Rossi, who took 2nd place on a Scott Dixon caught napping in turn 1.

The first yellow flag came out during lap 2. Dalton Kellett spun off in turn 1 and then rejoined. 

During the restart on lap 4, the unbelievable happened. While under caution going green, Marcus Ericsson hit on the rear end Sébastien Bourdais, going airborne. Both cars got heavy damages on their respective front and rear wing and continued on to the pit road, but Bourdais retired.

After another restart on lap 9 for debris, nothing of sensational happened and Herta led ahead of Rossi, Dixon, Grosjean and Rosenqvist.

On lap 16, Scott McLaughlin spun off after a contact with Ed Jones, another caution came out. On lap 20, traffic jam happened on the restart! Will Power went for the gap by passing his teammate Simon Pagenaud, putting him and Rinus VeeKay into the wall and blocking the rest of the field behind them, causing damages especially to Takuma Sato and Jimmie Johnson who is obliged to retire from the race. On lap 31, another caution came out with Rinus VeeKay once again in the wall.

On lap 36, Marcus Ericsson took the lead ahead of Ryan Hunter-Reay, Colton Herta, Alexander Rossi and James Hinchcliffe.

On lap 41, while Herta was chasing hard Ericsson for the lead, Kellett and McLaughlin crashed out once again. At the restart on lap 50, Alexander Rossi and Pato O' Ward caused another contact and another caution.

On lap 60, Herta went on for third place easily by screaming pass easily his teammate James Hinchcliffe. Two laps later, Herta passed for 2nd place Scott Dixon.

On lap 74, with 6 to go, disaster happened. Colton Herta crashed into the concrete wall while chasing Ericsson. On the last restart with 2 to go, only Ed Jones made a move at the inside of Alex Palou to get in 6th place.

At the end, Marcus Ericsson took the chequered flag with a sensational "launch and win", ahead of Scott Dixon and James Hinchcliffe on his last podium in NTT Indycar Series.
