## Caption

It’s the ninth #qualifying of the season at the #MidOhioSportsCarsCourse and the sun is shining on track. The first group of drivers is about to hit the circuit and try to make it into Round 2. Everybody is on hard tyres, except for Dalton Kellet who is on soft. On the first attempt, Will Power sets the top time. Nevertheless, at the end of the session Will Power gets his best time eliminated after having caused an impending to Helio Castroneves by waving on the straight. The Australian drops from P1 to P11 (he will then start P21 in the race). 
After a clean first round without red flags, the 6 drivers making to Round 2 are: McLaughlin, Veekay, Pagenaud, Rossi, Ilott and Malukas. 

It’s now time for the group 2 of round 1: Newgarden is the fastest and remains on top for more than half of the session. 
With only 50 seconds left on the clock, Herta sets a new benchmark of 1.07.0662, meanwhile Alex Palou looses the car at Turn 2. 
Few minutes later, Tatiana Calderon goes off track at Turn 11 and can’t finish her second attempt, while the others are improving their times.
With the session now over, the fastest 6 of Group 2 are: Rosenqvist, O’ward, Herta, Dixon, Palou and Kirkwood. 

The drivers are now starting the penultimate session of quali. Three of the 2022 rookies have made it to Round 2 and one of them, Malukas, looks very competitive as he gets on top on his first attempt with a laptime of 1.07.1309. It seems like the soft compound are the best choice to set the fastest lap and everybody is now pitting to change the tyres. As the session is over, McLaughlin is on top being the first one to make it to the last round, followed by Rosenqvist, O’Ward, Dixon, Herta and Pagenaud. 

The last session which assigns the pole position has now started: the drivers are all on the soft compound. 
As the chequered flag is waved, the pole position goes to #OWard after a phenomenal lap of 1:06.7054. The Mexican sets his first pole position of the year, in front of McLaughlin and Herta. Rosenqvist is fourth followed by Dixon and Pagenaud.
