QUALIFYING RESULTS🏁

During Round 1, the field is divided in 2 groups based on the last practice times and each group gets a 10 minute session. The 6 fastest of each group gets to a second session (Round 2) where the positions from 12th to 7th will be decided. Last session is the so called Fast 6 where the fastest 6 gets 6 minutes to try and set the pole position, which gives an extra point to the one who achieves it. 

Top 6 of the first group in Round 1: Castroneves, O’ward, Ericsson, McLaughlin, Pagenaud, Grosjean
Top 6 of the second group in Round 1: Malukas, Rossi, Herta, Newgarden, Dixon, Sato

Drivers from 12th to 26th: Romain Grosjean, Conor Daly, Rinus Veekay, Kyle Kirkwood, Will Power, Santino Ferrucci, Alex Palou, Devlin DeFrancesco, Jimmie Johnson, Graham Rahal, Tatiana Calderon, Dalton Kellet, Felix Rosenqvist.

During the end of the Round 2 that saw Grosjean crashing in turn 13, the fast 6 are: O’ward, Malukas, Castroneves, Pagenaud, Sato, Newgarden. 

Due to the red flag caused, Romain Grosjean will start the race at the bottom of the Round 2 in 12th position. 
 
Drivers from 7th to 11th: Colton Herta, Marcus Ericsson, Scott Dixon, Scott McLaughlin, Alexander Rossi.

POLE POSITION goes to JOSEF NEWGARDEN with an incredible lap of 1:15.2153, his third pole position here in Detroit (after the two in 2019 and 2021) and -1 to the record of Michael Andretti (4 poles). The American driver is followed by Sato (1.:15.3490) and Pagenaud (1:15.3951).
Fourth fastest is Castroneves with a lap time of 1:15.395, meanwhile fifth and fourth are respectively O’Ward (1:16.3301) and the rookie Malukas (1:16.6104) which gets his best position start in Indycar so far.
