🏆DETROIT PAST WINNERS🏆

The event that follows the Indy 500 takes place on the bumpy streets of Belle Isle, a small island located in Detroit, in the middle of the homonymous river located at the Canadian border.

The NTT Indycar Series has been running regularly on the city streets of the "Motor Town" since 2012, when Scott Dixon came out on top. From the following year until last season (with the exception of 2020, due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic), Detroit has been the scene of the traditional Indycar double-header, hosting two grand prix on the same weekend.

Last year it was ericsson_marcus and patriciooward who triumphed, the same first and second place finishers only a week ago in the prestigious Indy 500. Going backwards in the album of memories, however, we see two veterans of the category, such as Brazilian heliocastroneves and New Zealander scottdixon9, with three wins each.

Worth remembering is also the magical weekend in 2017 when grahamrahal became the first and only driver capable of winning both races, leading 96 of the 140 laps of the two-day event.

A track where the walls are dangerously close, as recalls frosenqvist , protagonist only 12 months ago of a frightening crash, or where the unexpected is always around the corner, as shown by the incident that involved the pace car at the exit of the pit lane in 2018, which forced the race director to delay the start of the GP.

The last variable not to be underestimated is that of rain, which fell on several occasions in Detroit although rarely with the intensity reached in 2015, on the occasion of carlosmunoz73 ‘s first and only Indycar victory, when the race had to be shortened due to the bad weather. In 2019, on the other hand, the rain allowed Michael Andretti to fully show his driving skills, as he decided to run two memorable laps on dry tires while the track was still quite wet.
