Chris Hondros (March 14, 1970 – April 20, 2011) was an American Pulitzer Prize-nominated photojournalist. He covered most of the world's major conflicts since the late 1990s, including wars in Kosovo, Angola, Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Kashmir, the West Bank, Iraq, Liberia and Libya. He received dozens of awards, including the 2006 Robert Capa Gold Medal, war photography's highest honor, for his work in Iraq. Hondros was also a two-time Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Breaking News Photography for his work in Liberia in 2004 and his work on the Arab Spring in 2011. In addition to his photography, Hondros was a frequent lecturer and essayist on issues of war. Hondros was killed while on assignment in Misrata, Libya on April 20, 2011. gettyimages is remembering Hondros' legacy by highlighting his work in his own words.⠀
