Luz: My mom met Joe my Sophomore year and thought he was such a nice guy. She said she was going to pray he finds a nice wife. Our moms actually liked us before we liked each other.

Joe: We met within a week or two of my first semester on campus at an InterVarsity event. We were friends for almost three years. It was a long journey for us. 
Luz: Our paths started to cross a lot more my senior year. We were so involved on campus and didn’t really want people to know we were dating, so we used to reserve a room in Axinn to just hang out and talk. We also used to spend time on a bench outside the library in between classes – I call it “our bench.” We always go back to it when we visit Hofstra. 
Luz: From the moment we started dating, we both knew this is what we wanted in life. We have so much fun together. We cook, we scare each other -  it’s awesome coming home and hanging out with my best friend. 
Joe: She’s like a little mouse, so you never hear her coming. But every now and then I get her pretty good. We have a fake cockroach and I put it in her shoe one day. She flipped out. 
Luz: You can always count on Joe to be his fun, playful self. I also love his character. He really pushes me to be the best I can be. We’re each other’s biggest champions. 
Joe: It’s really important for significant others to have their values align. We have a deep level of trust because of that, and we’re open and vulnerable with each other. -Joe Burg '13 & Luz Burg '12 *Luz & Joe will be married two years in June.
