True sustainability looks like 👆🏽

🌎With 80% of textile workers being Women of Colour, we cannot talk about sustainable fashion without acknowledging the exploitation and lack of representation in the decision making positions from the people who are the backbone of the fashion industry.

Did you know, the most common misconception about sustainable fashion is the narrative that the green movement is led by White people from the West? Most of the top brands including the ethical space, reflect this demographic in their marketing aesthetic, and in their office decision making.

The result?

Diverse people omitted from the conversation and BIPOC consumers merely represent tokenism.

Only centering BIPOC people as labourers, perpetuates the White saviour trope that centres the West at the forefront of tackling environmental and social injustice in fashion. However, in reality, many BIPOC cultures are sustainable by nature but their voices are not heard, resources are exploited and environments are destroyed for first world consumption.

Sustainable Fashion MUST include looking deeper into the source of climate change. To have true sustainability there SHOULD be diverse voices at the top. As consumers, voting with our wallet and supporting ethical businesses that centre the wellbeing of BIPOC people is synonymous with sustainability.

🇨🇦 As a woman owned and operated brand in the fashion space, opportunities are already limited for funding, community, and support - it’s even more limited when you are focused on producing things sustainably. We have always been transparent with our ethical sourcing and are proud of our quality production and marketing in-house supported by our 100% BIPOC team. This is why we take a full circle approach to inclusivity from our operations to production to marketing, so you can find yourself represented here. We’re also committed to using our diversity as our strength amplifying BIPOC voices in the space through collaboration.

Decolonization is a full circle approach
