Today we just have to crush on Marcia notsomumsy for capturing and honouring her final moments of breastfeeding.  We don’t realize how emotional these milestones are until we’re in it.  I remember I recruited help to make the process a little more manageable by getting my wonderful neighbour at the time who is like family to rock my daughter to sleep in my final weaning days. Today I fed you from my body for the last time. You happily played with my necklace and touched my face while I smiled back at you with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat, because you didn’t know it was the last time.... This is all we’ve known for all your life, so I get that it’s a big deal. It is for me too. It’s been your home, your safety, your comfort, but I promise you my arms will still be all these things .... Whether it’s breast or bottle, the last time you feed your baby as they lay in your arms looking up at you is a moment. One you may not even realise, until it’s gone. My breastfeeding journey started 7 years ago in the NICU with a tiny surgical tube fed baby, a hospital pump and a very scared first time mama. So began the most challenging and most beautiful journey of my life . One that I’ve mostly loved and sometimes loathed for many different reasons at many different times, but now that it’s behind me I realise what a gift to have experienced.
