All my 🤱🏽Ladies; what do you remember about your breastfeeding experience?
I can relate to Shayoons post as a travelling new mom, I felt much more comfortable nursing in Dubai then when I was living in North America and learned a lot about cultural differences and perceptions of women. A big thank you to moms like Shayoon who are challenging a mindset that shames women for what’s natural throughout the entire animal kingdom with love and awareness. Today let someone tell me something ... 🦶🏽💅🏽 - #Repost shayoon_ ・・・
Being a mother + working globally is draining, but at the same time the most rewarding. I’ve been traveling a lot this summer, and unfortunately many places, especially England & the United States frowned upon public breastfeeding! I was asked to leave or move to the bathroom at not one but three different restaurants!! A restaurant, an establishment, where you go to eat. Ironically they felt it was shameful to feed my newborn publicly. I thought about publicly announcing the names of the restaurants and their management. But, in the end, I’m not trying to shame anyone. My goal isn’t to ruin reputations. My goal is to educate and respond to their ignorance with love and compassion. I want to start by saying that there is absolutely nothing wrong with breastfeeding your child in public. To me, it is the most beautiful, primal and natural thing to do. I come from a culture where shame..coverage..hiding..and all that bullshit is engrained into our children and women. I grew up Muslim, I grew up in an Indian and Pakistani culture. I grew up conditioned and programmed to think that I need to feel some sort of shame for showing my body. Today I would like to say Shame on you if you project any sort of negativity to a mother that is feeding her child no matter her color, no matter her race, no matter her religion. Instead praise women for their sacrifice in bringing in these beautiful blessings to this earth.
