## Caption

In the West Wing there are only a few working fireplaces — this is the one in the White House press secretary’s office.  I told this story in my book The Briefing.....but here it goes. Shortly after taking office a gentleman stopped to let me know that should I wish to have a fire made I just needed to call the phone number he provided.  I thought well that’s silly, I was a Boy Scout, I know how to open a flu, start a fire etc why would I call someone to do what I should be able to do myself.....lesson learned within moments of my first attempt.  Apparently, the flu in these old fireplaces aren’t as simple and suddenly I had filled up my office and the surrounding areas with smoke.  Thank goodness it was Saturday and there weren’t many people around except the Secret Service that was kind enough to open the doors to help clear the area. #whitehouse #presssecretary
