If you’ve ever wondered why someone would adopt a senior dog, please read the story of Tag below...because 3 years with your best friend is better than no years with you best friend. ♥️ #Repost susiesseniordogs ・・・
“I adopted Tag in 2014 when I was freshly 19 and he was a ripe 10 years old. I went to the Detroit mhumane, I decided I’d just take a quick peak at the available dogs and that’s when I saw the most depressed looking senior dog laying in his kennel. Tag didn’t even lift his head up to look at me. I signed the paperwork, paid the adoption fee and off we went to the best three years of our lives.
That dog slept in my bed for four days straight when he came home, only getting up to eat and to go outside while decompressing from the stress of shelter life. The next three short years with him were the greatest years that he has ever known. I have never felt or knew a connection with an animal could be so strong and filled with love. We were always going on long walks in the park while his hound nose scent trailed everything for miles with his friend Tucker, spending lazy days lounging around together in the sun, going to the dog park, taking boat rides and swimming in the lake, or helping me study for my vet tech classes in college.
A month after my college graduation in 2017, Tag started slowing down and I took him to a specialist only to find that he had the big 'C' that had spread throughout his lungs. Once we found that out I knew our time together was coming to an end, so we took a trip up north and I had a feeling it would be our last. I made sure Tag had the best weekend ever where we laid around all day being lazy and he ate scrambled eggs, bacon, and whatever other human foods he wanted until that Sunday he stopped eating all together...no matter what was offered to him and that’s when I knew he was telling me it was time. Tag and I went for our final walk together by the lake and to the vets office one last time where I held him until he peacefully crossed that rainbow bridge. He opened my heart to #seniordogs and I promised to him that I’d love each new adopted dog in my life as much as I love him. -Leah" ❤️ #seniordog #bestbud #soloved
