Oregon State return to women’s basketball prominence came to an end Sunday, but not before it took the country’s best team to the wire.

No. 1 South Carolina scored 12 consecutive points to break open a close game in the third quarter, then had to fight the Beavers during the final minutes. The No. 1-ranked Gamecocks won the women’s NCAA Tournament Albany 1 Regional championship game, beating Oregon State 70-58 Sunday at MVP Arena.

The Beavers were within four points with three minutes left before South Carolina found a finishing kick.
