Riding up to Mangart Saddle on old WW1 jeep roads used to fortify the pass. It’s narrow for cars, but perfect for bikes!

It’s one of several mega climbs (it’s the highest road) in Slovenia’s Julian Alps, and it’s a one-way trip. Meaning, after a hearty bowl of cabbage and sausage stew, there’s a wicked fast, full of switchbacks descent back to Bovec!

The views are out of this world, with a short hike at the top to see over to the other side of the mountain. .
The reward for a big day of riding? The smoked meat sharing tray at hotelboka .
