In honor of #VeteransDay on November 11, we’re sharing posts this week about our veteran-focused work in Georgia. We partner with nonprofits that help improve the lives of veterans and their families by focusing on post-service OPS: Opportunities, Purpose and Support.

Today, as we highlight post-service OPS for veterans, we start with Opportunities by featuring hireheroesusa, a new grantee of The Overwatch Fund in 2021. 

**

Headquartered in metro Atlanta, Hire Heroes USA has an excellent reputation among veterans – largely through word-of-mouth referrals – and strong partnerships with major national employers. With support from the Overwatch Fund, Hire Heroes USA intends to increase awareness of their services among the growing number of veterans and military spouses who call Georgia home.

Each year the military discharges 270,000 service members, and the vast majority won't have a job lined up. Through their service, veterans have attained a unique set of skills and a strengthened character, making them highly marketable job candidates; yet, many veterans struggle to effectively market themselves for civilian jobs. Hire Heroes USA bridges this gap by providing services at no cost to clients including personalized one-on-one coaching, mentoring, professionally revised resumes, workshops, a job board, career fairs, an alumni program and more. On average, it costs $900 to place a veteran in a job, and the average starting salary of their veteran clients exceeds $60,000. More importantly, when veterans successfully transition to the civilian workplace, their employers, families and communities benefit, too.
