This compilation of my embarrassing dance moves (from 2013+2017) is to celebrate the first day of NATIONAL BRAIN INJURY AWARENESS MONTH!! ‼️‼️•••the long story: my beautiful sister was in an accident ~15 years ago that resulted in a TBI (traumatic brain injury). She had part of her skull removed, ruptured her spleen, broken tib+fib which lead to a fasciotomy, and a month in a coma (and a ridiculously long time in the hospital). The doctors said she would be in a vegetative state, and that they didn't think she would survive. And she almost didn't! Tayler persevered and fought for her life. I've never seen someone fight so hard. A CT scan of Tayler's head shows that she has almost NO frontal lobe. Yet through all these years of therapy, learning to walk, read, (still getting there with writing), and OT, she is here. They didn't think she would walk and now she can. They thought she would be nearly brain dead and unresponsive- but she has a childlike personality (around 6) and the funniest jokes and expressions around. My sister is beautiful, strong, wondrous and pure. I am happy to share my embarrassing dance moves because LOOK at her smile!! Her laugh! This is possible from the hard work of doctors at RIC in Chicago. But it was also made possible due to my mom's frustration at the lack of research for brain injury. She went back to school! Got a masters degree in psychology and behavior so that she could help my sister, and help people like my sister. You can donate to the brain injury association to help fund research and therapy ( bia_usa ) OR if you're broke like me you can spread awareness about TBIs, wear your helmet, wear your seatbelt, and always be a kind and considerate human being to everyone, especially those with special needs. Thanks for reading. Not all wounds are visible #mindyourmind ❤️ #braininjuryawareness #tbi #notaloneinbraininjury #not #a #powerlifting #post
