What started on Zoom during the pandemic evolved into the "Chuck Furuya Uncorked" podcast and now a YouTube series – a vision between father and son to connect generations with wine. The goal of chuckfuruyauncorked is to get past the intimidating nuances of #wine in order to achieve true enjoyment.⁣
⁣
In 1988, Chuck Furuya became the 10th person in the United States, and the only person in Hawaiʻi, to pass the rigorous Master Sommelier examination. He first began working in restaurants while attending college as a way to earn extra income. Wine and food quickly became his passion, so he pursued work at some of Hawaiʻi's most highly-regarded establishments, including Bagwell's 2424 in the Hyatt Regency Waikīkī and La Mer at the Halekulani. He also served as cellar master at the former Kahala Hilton. In 2003, Furuya partnered with Chef D.K. Kodama and helped develop the wine program for Vino, eventually overseeing the wine programs for all of the D.K. Restaurant Group's establishments. In addition, Furuya is also the #MasterSommelier for HawaiianAirlines.⁣
