"This past year, 2020 has been filled with many themes, and unfortunately a common one is hate. Hate towards different religions, races, ethnicities, and sexual communities. It’s when the hate becomes crimes unnoticed based on the inability to distinguish people from their religion. When I walk down the street, without visible stereotypes, you can’t tell me from a White American or a Jew. Anti-Semitism, an unfortunate, but relevant issue in the world goes unnoticed because of the lack of awareness and realization of the oppression my religion has faced. It’s when it starts to hit close to home, I feel the need to use my voice as a UD Jewish Student Athlete to advocate the issue on Anti-Semitism. The Chabad Center for Jewish Life at University of Delaware, my home away from home, suffered an unfortunate and devastating fire brought on by arson, that destroyed the facility and, once again, is hitting so close to home.

As a UD student athlete, I am fortunate to be part of a diverse community made up of different races and religions, that gives the opportunity to grow together and learn from each other. With the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, within UD athletics, I feel confident that moving forward we will be able to combat Anti-Semitism together, not only within UD athletics, but on our campus and in collegiate sports as a whole.

We unfortunately live in a world that is filled with hate. If we pledge to be part of the change together, we do not need to face it alone! Be part of the change. Speak out. Don’t be a bystander. Stand by your peers. Speak up for them. The change won’t happen if we stay silent. Use your platform, use your voice, and utilize your resources and help spread awareness of hate across the country and the world! We can’t do it alone!
