𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬? When we see news of such senseless violence, it feels like the only words that exist are "Lord, have mercy." And that's a good place to start.

In our blog, mom-of-two, Lisa Lakey offers 8 suggestions for parents to talk with their kids about this heart-breaking subject. Here are 4:

Keep conversations age-appropriate. If your child is school-aged, start by asking what they've heard.

Speak truthfully. Don't reassure your child that nothing bad will ever happen to them. Even at a very young age, children know this just isn’t true. Instead, tell them you'll do everything you can to keep them safe and that others in the community are working for that, too.

Take a media break when kids are around. Images and details are hard enough for adults to handle

Pray with your kids. Model for them how to take your worries, your burdens, and fears, and give them to God through prayer. Ask God for His peace and comfort during times of tragedy.
