#OnThisDay at the 1968 Olympics, Bob Beamon nearly jumped out of the pit on his first attempt in the long jump final. He shattered the world record by 55cm/21.65in with a leap of 8.90m/29-2.50. It took 20 minutes to measure the jump and it still stands as the Olympic record today. #Celebrate68
