Meet Aggie gymnastics alumna Mari Inouye! Mari was a two sport athlete who started out as a gymnast before getting into equestrian vaulting at 12 years old. She picked up gymnastics again in high school and competed for the Aggies as a beam and floor specialist from 2005-2007. She graduated with a major in communications and a minor in film studies in 2007. ✨💙💛

Mari took a break from equestrian vaulting while competing for the Ags and began again after graduation, quickly excelling in the sport. She competed in many international competitions in Europe, but her career highlight was stateside in Lexington, Kentucky, capturing the Gold Medal for the US Team at the World Equestrian Games in 2010! Mari is now a health and fitness expert specializing in educating the equestrian athlete in pursuit of healthier bodies and stronger minds! You can follow her mind.body.vault.

Mari’s takeaways: “One can learn so much as a student athlete...being a part of a collegiate sport was the highlight of my college experience. Having that support system and built in family gave me more confidence and a sense of community. Feeling like we were a part of something bigger than us working and adapting together to accomplish goals. You learn so much as a student athlete. You learn how to juggle your academics, practice, schedules and a social life. It constantly prepares you for the "real world" and some of the adversities you may have to overcome. The grind never stops. That mentality sticks with you and I am grateful to have experienced the relentless self-discipline required of a student athlete.”

Fun fact: Mari’s sister, Tamara Inoue, is the UC Irvine head women’s basketball coach. Tamara would have visited UC Davis a few weeks ago, but the game was canceled.
