Today, September 30 is #OrangeShirtDay, a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to commemorate the Indian Residential School experiences and to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families. 

It also continues the ongoing process of reconciliation. Through the Indigenous Relations Office, we’re committed to working with the community to educate people about the history of Indigenous people in Calgary and the surrounding areas.

Stay informed and get involved:
➡️ Educate yourself about Canada’s colonial history and its assimilation policies, including Indian Residential Schools.
➡️ Read the White Goose Flying Report, which was developed to highlight Calls to Action outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that we will take action on (calgary.ca/orangeshirtday)
➡️ Consider purchasing an orange shirt from an Indigenous vendor and wear it on Sept. 30).
➡️ Use #OrangeShirtDayYYC on Instagram/Twitter to share how you’re commemorating the day & join the conversation in reconciliation with Indigenous communities.
