For #ThrowbackThursdays during #blackhistorymonth, we are taking a look at Black History at St. Mark’s. While this differs from the School experience now, it is important to highlight these milestones and remind one another that equity, representation, and diversity is essential for success in the future. St. Mark’s is committed to providing our students with a superior education in a community of students, parents, faculty, and staff that represents a variety of racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds.

In 1903, Edwin Washington, was appointed Head Steward at St. Mark’s School. Washington was responsible for all non-academic purchases at the School and assisting the treasurer of the SM Board of Trustees as the School’s de facto business manager.
