The USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies (uscwrigleyinst) is testing whether giant kelp might offer a viable solution as clean, green biofuel.

But how could enough seaweed be produced to be commercially relevant? USC Dornsife researchers have developed a unique way to help boost kelp production in the open ocean using what's known as a "kelp elevator."
