Today, we get to know #DornsifeTrojan Zoë Bautista! Zoë is a senior majoring in neuroscience and psychology. She tells us about her time at USC Dornsife, in and out of the classroom. 📚 🩺 Favorite Dornsife Experience:
The Joint Educational Project (uscjep) is a cornerstone of my experience as a student at USC! Working in the L.A. Unified School District through ReadersPLUS and learning about the homelessness crisis through Trojan Health Volunteers (uscthv) are invaluable experiences that have contributed to my passion for working with underprivileged and underserved populations. 
 
✌️ Best and worst of pandemic life:
Best: In the COVID world, much more effort goes into seeing people responsibly or reaching out frequently— showing you who is important! Worst: As a student, I struggled the most with focusing and keeping myself motivated while everything is online. Staring at a screen for class, work, research and extracurricular meetings is taxing. Focusing on hobbies like reading, drawing and painting helped as well as getting outside to find sunsets, go hiking and hang on the beach! 
 
📖 Most valuable book I’ve read for class:
/⚠️TRIGGER WARNING/ “Mean” by Myriam Gurba is a fictional autobiography I read for my ENGL 298 “Intro to the Genre of Fiction” class. This is a memoir about sexual violence on the female body that was released around the time of the #MeToo movement. She provides an invaluable perspective as a survivor, mixes in crude humor and creates a book unlike any I have ever read before.
 
I ❤️ L.A.:
The L.A. area is so geographically diverse—it is so nice having the beach, the mountains, the desert and the city in such close proximity. As someone who loves the ocean, I think it's surreal that, even in winter, you can go to the beach to run or surf before class! I also appreciate how rich LA culture is; living here has contributed to widening my perspectives and beliefs!
