“’No Scrubs’ is actually a brilliantly written and crafted song…in the first two acts of the song, the Scrubs are ephemeral… but then in the final act of the song, there’s a perspective shift and there’s a direct address… If you don’t have a car, I am literally talking to you… I wanted to write these poems that were using those direct addresses as prompts. How many poems can I wring out of just that moment in ‘No Scrubs’?”
