#TerrierTuesdays:  Arnaldo José Franco (CAS’20) has two main passions in his life: #music and #medicine. The pre-med major is currently studying cell #biology, molecular biology & #genetics at BU and is a member of the pre-med society on campus. In his spare time, he’s busy on the #piano, recently starting to learn pieces ranging from Beethoven's sonatas to Yanni's music. Franco, a native of Puerto Rico, was a sophomore in high school when he picked up playing piano as a hobby. After attending a lesson with his brother, it was Arnaldo who came out with the interest in piano, and began to teach himself to play. “It’s a way to express myself without having to find the words,” he says. As a native Spanish speaker, he loves that piano can be understood universally; “There are no language skills needed,” he says, “you just need to open your ears, your mind, and your heart to it.” Arnaldo spent his senior year in Puerto Rico recording a CD of ten piano solos by his favorite contemporary composer – #Yanni. The proceeds from all sales of the CD have gone to benefit the San Jorge Children’s Foundation, a hospital near his home that treats children from families that would otherwise struggle to pay for health care at low- to no-cost. Franco, who was working with the foundation and had visited the hospital, thought it was the perfect beneficiary for his donation because it “brings abundant hope to so many families.” Just two months into his studies at BU, the BU_CAS freshman is still making time for both music and medicine while fitting in seamlessly on Comm. Ave. “I feel as if I've been here for years – so far, I feel I fit just perfectly,” he says.
