On Monday, Jimmy Rane, Greg Rane & James Rane arrived on campus to help present the Anthony J. Rane Future American Warrior Award to an MMI cadet planning to serve in the U.S. military “at the tip of the spear.” This award was established in 2007 by BG John “Doc” Bahnsen (MMI ’52), one of the most decorated Vietnam warfighters, with his brother Peter F. Bahnsen. To ensure the perpetuation of this award, BG Bahnsen agreed to provide loyal supporter Jimmy Rane (MMI ’64) a naming opportunity for this award. Mr. Rane subsequently chose to honor his late father, “Tony,” a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Cadet Ryder Burk of Fairhope, Ala. was announced as the 2023 recipient; he intends to become an officer in the U.S. Army and branch Infantry. 

Taking the podium, Jimmy Rane reminded the cadets seated in the Chapel that by coming to MMI, they had shown the courage to do something different. He added, “You have an opportunity that very, very few are going to have. Look at the success rates of cadets coming out of here.” Alluding to the current political climate, he encouraged fellow Americans to choose unity over division and quoted from President Lincoln’s Gettysburg address.
