D-Day is honoured in the United States to commemorate the Normandy landings in France on June 6, 1944, in which American soldiers and other Allied forces fought to bring World War II to an end in Europe.  It is yet another important day that we pay homage to our armed forces that paved the way for us to thrive as a nation, and pay respects to those who lost their lives fighting to preserve ours.
