Our mental and physical wellness are interconnected - which means we have to care for our bodies just as much as we care for our minds. It’s easy to forget - but fortunately it’s not a difficult fix! Here are some tips for good physical health:

Exercise at least 3X a week! You don’t have to be a body builder or a track runner to get in some physical activity. In fact, you don’t even need a gym membership! You can get in your exercise for free by going for daily walks, hiking on the weekends, or doing equipment-free workouts in your own space. A simple routine could be doing pushups every morning. Set a goal for yourself and try to increase it over time. If you want a form of exercise that’s both relaxing and healthy, you could try practicing yoga! YouTube is a great place to search for free instructional workout videos if you need a guide, but don’t want to pay a chunk of change.

Sleep! Sleep can be so easy to neglect, because we are all just so busy. If you aren’t getting at least 6 hours of sleep at night, it might be helpful to ask yourself “What can wait until tomorrow?” If you can find something to give up in order to catch some additional rest, your body will thank you the next day.

Eat as well as you can. It might seem overwhelming when we try to think about changing our entire diet all at once. So if you want to start eating better, try to make one diet change at a time. Add a plate of veggies to every other dinner. Use a refillable water bottle and set a daily intake goal for yourself. Try switching sugary coffee drinks to caffeinated teas like Yerba Mate, Green Tea, and Chai.

The most important thing to do is to understand that it’s not a race. Everyone improves at their own pace - so don’t beat yourself up when you realize it’s time for a change. Small bits of improvement will add up over time.

(And as always…enjoy your week!)
