Kwanzaa, which is commemorated from December 26 to January 1, is a seven-day celebration of African heritage. Rather than being associated with a specific religion, Kwanzaa is celebrated by people of many religious backgrounds and used to emphasize a series of cultural principles, known as the Nguzo Saba.  Each day of Kwanzaa corresponds with a specific value.⁠

Day 1 - Umoja (Unity):⁠
⁠
Day one is focused on the theme of unity in the family, community, nation, and race.⁠

Day 2 - Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)⁠
⁠
Emphasizes the principle of self-determination, not only when it comes to achieving individual goals - but in the sense of becoming firm in the establishment of one's identity and purpose. ⁠

Day 3 - Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility): ⁠

Celebrates the importance of collective work and responsibility -  Not only individually - but as a community of people working to encourage one and other. ⁠

Emphasizes the importance of community in reaching economic success.  Celebrants often use this day to support and patronize African-American-owned stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them together.⁠

Day 6 - Kuumba (Creativity)⁠

Emphasizes the concept of faith in whichever sense it means to you as an individual - whether it be in a religious sense, or simply in the context of having faith in oneself or others.⁠
