It’s been 3 years now and the #fastbraidfriday movement has taken on a life of its own!
I love getting asked about the meaning behind it all in interviews. Even if you didn’t ask, I’m gonna tell ya the how and the why...
HOW it started: I’ve been braiding my hair for as long as I’ve been an athlete. My mom taught me when I was young and eventually I become the “team braider” on my high school xc/track team and then continued that role in college. Then back in 2017 I posted a lil selfie of my french braid saying “is french braid Friday a thing? Because it should be.” And people agreed! It should! And they started posting pics too... #frenchbraidfriday turned into #fastbraidfriday to be inclusive of all kinds of braids and braid styles that make us feel FAST!

WHY does it matter? It’s just hair right? Yep, it just hair. Yet somehow this hair thing has created community. It gives people confidence. It makes us stand up straighter and becomes a key part of the preparation process before attacking a big challenge in life. It’s not fancy, it’s not expensive, you don’t need to buy a bunch of stuff or classes (YouTube has plenty of tutorials), you just need some hair. And any kind of hair will do.

The #fastbraidfriday community lifts each other up. We cheer each other on and are inspired by one another. And we are all connected by something as simple as hair.
Braid your hair, show someone you care about them by braiding their hair. And then go out and do something great! And then tell us about it using #fastbraidfriday and tag me and/or fastbraidfriday so we can see what you accomplished!
