#ThrowbackThursday: AFRICAN-AMERICAN #SOLDIERS IN THE SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR:
"We officers of the 10th Cavalry would have taken our Black #heroes in our arms. They had again fought their way into our affections, as they had fought their way into the hearts of the American people." - Lieutenant John J. Pershing. 
Of the twenty-six regiments in this force, most were Regular Army regiments, including the four all-Black 9th and 10th #Cavalry, and 24th and 25th #Infantry. In the attacks on the two objectives on San Juan Heights - i.e., San Juan and Kettle Hills - units became intermixed and pressed forward together to accomplish the mission.
