Sprinter Sydney Smith and high jumper Thomas Senechal-Becker are the Biosteel Athletes of the Week.

Smith won the 600m at the Redbird Last Chance Meet. The 2021-22 season has been tremendous for the senior from Ottawa, as her 600m time of 1:29.38 at the Windsor Team Challenge earlier this year is currently the fastest in U SPORTS and the fastest all-time by a Gee-Gee. Smith heads into next week’s OUA Championship as a medal favourite.

Senechal-Becker won the high jump competition at the Redbird Last Chance Meet - his second win in as many weeks. The first year Health Science student’s clearance of 2.02m easily took the event. Senechal-Becker is currently ranked third nationally in the high jump, thanks to a clearance of 2.05m last week in Windsor.

Smith a remporté le 600m lors du Redbird Last Chance Meet. La saison 2021-22 a été extraordinaire pour l'athlète vétérane d'Ottawa, son chrono de 1:29,38 au 600m au Windsor Team Challenge plus tôt cette année est actuellement le temps le plus rapide enregistré au sein d’U SPORTS cette année. C‘est aussi le chrono le plus rapide au 600m de tous les temps pour un Gee-Gee. Smith se rendra au championnat des SUO de la semaine prochaine en tant que favorite sur la distance du 600m.

Senechal-Becker a remporté la compétition de saut en hauteur lors du Redbird Last Chance Meet - sa deuxième victoire en autant de semaines. Avec un saut de 2,02 m, l'étudiant de première année en sciences de la santé a facilement remporté l'épreuve. Senechal-Becker est actuellement classé au troisième rang au niveau national au saut en hauteur, grâce à une hauteur réussie de 2,05 m la semaine dernière à Windsor.
