The bond between mother and child is truly sacred when it comes to giraffes. A baby giraffe will stay with mom for up to 16 months before it’s old and large enough to defend itself from predators. And with dad out of the picture, it’s usually mom raising the young, but other adult females will help defend younger giraffes if needed.
