Who runs the world? GIRLS. In 1973, Leila Foley-Davis became the first Black woman elected mayor in the United States paving the way for others like Lori Lightfoot. In 2019 Lightfoot became Chicago’s first black woman mayor making it the largest city to elect an African-American woman as its top elected official.
