underøath // so what // grand prairie, tx

After going to UnderOath's farewell show in Dallas in 2013, I had pretty much assumed I'd never see the band that had been such a strong influence on my musical taste and youth ever again. I considered myself lucky to had seen them three times up until that point, once at Warped, once at the Palladium Ballroom in Dallas, and of course the farewell show at the House of Blues in Dallas as well. When I found out they were playing So What?! I about lost it. When I found out they would be playing "They're Only Chasing Safety" and "Define the Great Line" with Aaron returning on drums I did lose it. 100 percent. If I could tell you how many times I drove around, blasting Reinventing Your Exit, A Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White, It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door, In Regards to Myself, or Writing on the Walls, or how many times I listened to Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape and got some level of chills when Spencer started to scream. This band, along with so many others was my youth. And for that, they will always be a band I still sing along to while driving, probably a little bit while photographing them (k, fine, a lot), and really whenever a song of theirs comes on.

Many thanks to @mikeziemer and the @sowhatmusicfest and @thirdstringproductions crews for putting on a very rad fest this weekend. Stoked to see what y'all have up your sleeves for next year. Thanks for letting me photograph the fest yet again. Stoked to finish editing through these thousands of photos and get this mound of film sent off to the fine folks at Indie to get processed and scanned. For now, I'll leave y'all with this frame from UnderOath's set just over 24 hours ago.
