Solo US major National Park 49! ⁣

You can only drive a private vehicle down 15 miles of the 92 mile Denali road. To get any further you have to take a bus. Our driver told us early in the 8+ hour journey that we were lucky. “We haven’t had a clear view like this since last month”, she said. ⁣
⁣
The famous statistic is that only 30% of visitors will catch a glimpse of the enormous mountain. Locals I talked to said it was probably less than that. At 20,308 ft above sea level, the tallest mountain in North America is famously elusive behind the frequent clouds. ⁣
⁣
The forecast was rain for my tour later in the week — but the next day was clear. It took all of 3 seconds to decide to change course and head north. To try to catch a glimpse. As I drove up the highway the night before my tour, the mountain came into view. I had to catch my breath as my eyes started to fill with tears. It was unexpectedly emotional to see something so massive in real life. To feel so small. And I was somehow still over a hundred miles away.⁣
