This weekend I wanted a veggie jimmy johns sandwich. So I spent the day baking bread, finding the perfect avocado spread recipe, going to multiple grocery stores, all to make a sandwich I could have delivered in 10 minutes. 😳⁣

I posted about it on Facebook and someone commented “industrious”. I smiled because the origin of my name is, — according to the name bookmark I had as a kid — industrious. Diligent and hard working. I am those things. Truly.⁣
⁣
Which made me think: am I industrious because I was just born this way? Or because I had a bookmark that told me that’s what my name meant? That Emily was industrious. That I am industrious. I’d have to say the latter.⁣

Because words matter. The labels we place on others. And the way that we see ourselves. We are what we believe we are. What others see in us. Believe about us. They become the things we see in ourselves. It matters. —
