As a teacher, I spend a lot of time thinking about goals. Objectives. The why. Why are we doing this? Why are we learning _____? And for a long time it was only future focused. We are doing this to prepare for the test. For high school. For college. To set up the next generation for success. And we are doing all of these things. We are. ⁣
⁣
But what does that mean for right now? Is it all just a transition? Is it all leading to something else? Well, maybe. But I don't think about it that way anymore. In school or in life. ⁣
⁣
I used to think of fall the same way. A transition to winter. To cold. The leaves change so they can fall. The weather gets cooler to prepare for the winter. It's all a transition. It's all leading somewhere. And again, while technically this is all true, it misses the point entirely. To me anyway. ⁣
⁣
Fall isn't just a transition, just like learning how to solve a problem isn't just a stepping stone to something else. It has value in itself. In the moment. The present. It might help me to build on later, but it might serve it's purpose for me now. It might just be today. ⁣
⁣
Life is a journey, but it's also the destination. Be here now. Truly. In the in-between -- because it's all an in between. And all that we have is now. ⁣
