It’s the little things. Small things make big impacts. Butterfly effect. Pebble in a pond. You’ve heard it all. But how often do you actually look for the little things. Give thanks for them. Reverence to them?

Yesterday I was tired. So tired. My flight was at 6 but I found myself at the airport 3 hours early because I just couldn’t explore any more (don’t be too disappointed it happens to us all)

I knew there was another flight leaving in about 20 minutes. With a $75 change fee. Non-negotiable on United. I bought two one ways so the change fee was actually more than my flight. I asked the gate agent. She gave me the rundown. Told me to think about it.

I asked my parents what to do. Would it be worth it? Dad says — it’s your money do what you want. Mom says — sometimes you just need to be at home — do it! .

At that very second my Apple watch activity tracker notification said simply “you can still do it” referring to meeting my activity goals for the day — but obv time wise was what I needed to tip the scales and run back to the gate agent. .

I get out my wallet as boarding is already starting. She can’t find my name, isn’t sure there is still room, then magically hands me a new ticket. I ask how I paid and she shooshes me off with a smile — just go, its boarding anyways she says.

Get to my seat, it is an upgraded plus seat. Way nicer than my original flight. Got me home before dark. Enough time to feel alive and prepared for work today. .

Doesn’t seem like much. I bet a lot of people are saying “that happens all the time” or “sometimes you get lucky” but to me, it’s much more than that. It’s the little things that change our lives. That I believe happen not because anyone is “lucky” but because you seek them out. I ask for it. I look for the little joys. I treat people nicely. And I hope my spirit comes through. I think it does. .
