This has become a mantra of sorts for me. I'm always amazed how something obvious to me is the opposite to someone else. .
.

I read a comment section on a local news story recently (first mistake, I know) and couldn't get over how many comments were some version of "no one cares about ______ anymore" or "there is no humanity left in this world" I had to bite my tongue and sit on my hands to stop myself from replying, "hey, isn't the fact that you are commenting this on this story proof that at least you care about ______ anymore? And hey that's one person 🤷🏻‍♀️"

We see things as we are. If we are negative, judgmental and unkind then that is what we will see. If I think there is no humanity left in this world it's easy to ignore all of the good -- even in myself.

It reminds me of the white bear problem (ironic process theory for my fellow nerds) "Try to pose for yourself this task: not to think of a polar bear, and you will see that the cursed thing will come to mind every minute." #Dostoevsky #butseriouslytryitbearsarethebest

Because perception is reality, right? We see the good we want to see. We assume the positive intentions we want others to see in us. Or the opposite. It's a choice.
