The triumphant spirit, perseverance & love that defines Kenosha’s community has inspired all of us, inciting renewed vigor as we continue our journey across America.⁣
⁣
At 11PM on Monday, our caravan - the hoopbus, rbeats and voicesfromthestreets - pulled up to a fog-filled parking lot just inside city lines where over a hundred justice-seeking locals gathered. After 2 hours of motivational speeches + safety talks, we embarked on a ~38 mile march from Kenosha -> Milwaukee alongside the extraordinary people who call the small Wisconsin town their home.⁣

One foot in front of the other, predawn till sunset, we marched in solidarity with the #JacobBlake family. Through the frigid midwest winter night, we marched for justice. We have never experienced anything quite like this.⁣
⁣
The R.Beats crew led the caravan, performing an epic 19hr DJ set, drowning out anxiety & vitriol spewed by aggressive passerbyers. Inches behind, the fearless leader & activist Greg walked every step. “I want you right on my 6PM all the way to Milwaukee,” Greg told them. ⁣
⁣
The marchers, who danced along tirelessly through the cold, long night, frequently jumped on and off the R.Beats & The Hoopbus for warmth, hot soup, & what has to be the longest basketball game of the trip!⁣

Extraordinary humans made this happen. Justin Blake, Jacob Blake’s uncle, led chants and made the walk look easy with his passion. Earlier in our interview he told us, “I’ll march whatever I can for little Jake, but I have pins in both my knees so I'll be in the car for a lot of it.” He was not. He was with the people. ⁣

From the highway to the suburbs, seeing reactions to our movement - families coming out on their front lawns, an elder with a cane joining the march, voices of revolution echoing out of R.Beats and ricocheting off every window pane of office buildings we passed... It was a profoundly humbling experience for all of us. ⁣
⁣
18 hours, 38 miles later, Sam Cooke’s 1963 “A Change is Gonna Come” played through the streets of our final destination: Red Arrow Park in downtown Milwaukee. ⁣

We made it! Exhausted but our spirits revitalized. 🙌⁣
