🚨 Long post alert 🚨

In 2018 I ran my first marathon on 2 herniated discs and bruised tailbone. I saw a doctor two weeks before NYC, they gave me some steroids and I was able to run. I did not hit my target time but I finished in once piece. I was told rest would heal whatever hip and back pain I was having so I kept living my life with little running or physical activity. Fast forward to February 2019, sitting in an big important meeting at work, I lost all feeling in my right leg and lower back. I panicked called my doctor who said “not my speciality” and waited months to figure out what was going on. It took my PT and GP multiple referrals to find a back doctor with an appointment open. At this point I couldn’t touch my toes or even pick up my computer bag off the floor, I wasn’t supposed to walk my dog more than a half mile, let alone run. I was told by one doctor that I had an annular tear and required surgery (NOPE had to pay $600 surgical consult 🙄) was treated like s**t by multiple male doctors and staff. After a year, saw a doctor who referred me to a PT that had pelvic and functional specialist.

Fast forward to today, over three years later, multiple MRIs, doctors, and consistent physical therapy- I can finally touch my toes again. I may not have run this week as part of my bsimevents marathon training (my back still acts up), but I rode 2 hours of onepeloton including a bootcamp and was able to touch my toes and properly stretch afterwards.

People say hard work pays off, and I can truly say that yes it does. Even if I’m back to where I was three years ago, I’m just happy I can touch my toes again.
