Three former Rowan engineering students appeared on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent Extreme” and wow’d the judges with their rather unusual talent. The 3 alumni (plus a 4th partner) created new technology that programs drones to perform a light show. During their segment, viewers watched 160 drones form colorful, moving, 3D shapes 300 feet in the air. The inventors called it a hi-tech fireworks show.

During the segment, the 3 innovators described having met at Rowan and how they discovered their passion for drone technology there. They also talked about how much they’ve sacrificed while perfecting the technology over the past 7 years, including moving back in with their parents.

But now it seems their work has paid off. Judge Simon Cowell gave the self-described drone nerds the “golden buzzer,” which means they moved directly to the show’s finale, where they competed for a $500,000 grand prize, but were eliminated early on.
