The Sport of Queens! Happy Birthday to Queen Elizabeth II, who turned 92 on 21st April 🎉 The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh visited Randwick in February 1954, and in honour of her visit, the AJC created the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
The Queen used her visit on 22nd February 1992 to declare Randwick 'Royal' and to bestow the honour of the 'Royal' appellation.  A letter from the Queen's Private Secretary sent the next day confirmed the appointment, saying that the Queen was 'particularly glad to legitimise your traditional title of "Royal".
