The Australian Racing Hall of Fame day is on this Sat at Rosehill Gardens, in recognition of the induction ceremony honouring greats of our sport. Introduced in 2001 with 20 members, Phar Lap included, and he was elevated to 'Legend' status in 2007.
In 1928 Harry Telford paid 160 guineas for him at New Zealand yearling sales on behalf of David Davis. This scrawny looking individual went on the become a national hero. Wins included 2x Cox Plates, an AJC Derby, a Melbourne Cup & 19 other weight for age races. He went to Mexico and won the Agua Caliente Hcp in track-record time 20 March 1932, that was his final race. He was moved to a ranch in California where a mysterious illness claimed his life on 5 April 1932. #halloffame #racinghistory #history #pharlap #horseracing #thoroughbred #champion
