In the competitive Female Masters Division, Jacquie Haggarty lucky_in_it from Burlingame, CA has emerged as one of the favorites.  The VP of the popular 23andme company and mother of three posted an 11:53 opening 2 Mile and followed it up with a 5:24 Mile (Masters PR) which automatically advanced her to the third round.

After a nagging injury for the second part of last year, I was able to start training again just as we began sheltering in place -- and I'm so grateful to have had running as a legitimate way to get out of the house!  I've been mostly in the run-for-fun-and-health phase for decades and pre-COVID, I hadn't been training for any race.  In early July, my Runcoach teammates suggested the Trials of Miles virtual series and it has been super (and stressful!) to get some races on the track!"

On expectations going into the tournament: "The series started the week of my 42nd birthday, and I wasn't expecting much of myself except a framework to get some butterflies in my stomach and solid efforts in.  I've been so impressed with the competitors and it's really cool to have this connectivity and inspiration from other runners that live, in some cases, thousands of miles away."

Goals for Rounds 3 and 4: "To survive as long as I can.  I'm thrilled to have made it this far!  The Masters Women is loaded with amazing long distance runners, and so this clearly will be the toughest week -- we all appreciate a 5k on the track which is no joke!"
