And just like that - It’s officially been two weeks since my stem cell procedure. It’s been a little rocky at times but I’m just over here making lemonade 🍋 I’ve had lots of people reach out and ask about the procedure and how I’m doing so far, so here are the big take away points for me 2 weeks into recovery! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• sling is long gone. 🙏🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• I have full range of motion within the shoulder again. Even overhead and out to the side. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• I’m able to use my arm during workouts more than I was last week. I can “swing” my arm out for movements like pistols and air squats. Still can’t swing it overhead for something like a GHD sit up but we’re getting there. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• I can carry stuff again and also pick things up without discomfort. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• I’m going to PT sessions twice a week with mcoryp at Orlando Health - along with completing assigned recovery work throughout the week. I’ve been able to add in very light weight work and even super scaled push ups and ring rows. Also been using that arm bike thingy (whatever it’s called)😅 Today I was able to go overhead with some light weight so progress is being made. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• A surprise and a bummer was realizing that running is still a no go - not because of the motion but because of the impact. The shoulder doesn’t like that yet. The bike erg has become my best friend. But I’m able to use one of those anti gravity treadmills to take away the impact so I’m able to “run”🙃 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• starting to really notice the muscle loss in my back, shoulders, and arms - and while it was absolutely known and expected - it’s still a bummer to watch happen 😔 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• other than that just basic stuff like sleeping on that shoulder, slightly supporting my weight, pushing or pulling doors open, driving with both arms, etc etc are all good. #progressisprogress 👏🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• going to start looking at adding in more movements in training like empty barbell stuff and holding med balls during squats (exciting stuff i know 😬) but for now my legs will continue to get wrecked as my upper body sits the bench. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• again more updates to come!
