On this day 20 years ago, the Australian Opals defeated Brazil, 64-52, in the semi-finals of the Sydney 2000 Olympics which saw the Aussies progress to the gold medal match against the United States.
 
brondellosandy and laurenelizabethjackson led the Opals victory in this match with 16 points each, Brondello with a supporting two assists and Jackson with nine rebounds.
